Launch of Free Town Walks in Leamington Spa
A series of free guided walks around Royal Leamington Spa have been launched today, 20th June, by the Mayor Cllr Caroline Evetts.
The guided walks are organised by the Leamington History Group and supported by the Leamington Spa Town Council.
Caroline Evetts, Mayor, said: “This is a wonderful initiative. The walks have different themes ranging from hidden alleyways, riverside walks to architectural insights. Each walk provides gentle exercise, over an hour, covering easy terrain and are suitable for all ages and abilities.
"As well as encouraging healthy exercise, the walks are also an opportunity to explore our fabulous town and its fascinating history.”
Barry Franklin, Chair of the Leamington History Group, said: “We welcome people to join our free walks. No advanced booking is required, just turn up and meet the guide at the start time. All walks, except the cemetery walk, start from the South Lodge entrance opposite the Royal Pump Rooms.”
The first walk, opened by the Mayor, was a discovery of how Leamington Spa grew into a prosperous town in the 19th Century.
