Welcome Signs of Success in Lillington
The vibrant community of Lillington has been recognised in a visible way for the first time thanks to local councillors and residents
and with the support of our MP Matt Western.
'Welcome to Lillington' highway signs now stand at five entry points around Lillington following an almost-three year campaign by Lillington Local History Society working with Royal Leamington Spa Town Council.
Richard Taulbut of the Lillington Local History Society said:
"Lillington is signposted from every direction, but without entry signage visitors did not know when they had arrived. The new signage will help visitors, and give a valued sense of recognition and identity for residents of the community."
Cllr Sarah Boad said 'I would like to pay tribute to the Lillington Local History Society for bringing this to our attention and for leading the campaign. The Town Council was pleased to support the provision of signs. They are an attractive addition to the street scene and put Lillington on the map!!'
Matt Western MP added: “I’m absolutely delighted that Lillington finally has signs that welcome residents, visitors, and workers to the area.
“Together with residents and the local History Society, I have been advocating for this to happen for a couple of years and supported the community by helping to develop the case made to the local authority. Credit to Leamington Town Council for its help.
“Lillington is a fantastic and proud community, it is only right it is assured of its identity and that they get the recognition they deserve.”
Official permission from Warwickshire County Council was obtained, and Leamington Town Councillors budgeted £1500 towards the total cost of the project, leaving the last £850 to be raised by Lillington History Society members.
